This game was created for Economics 243: The Economics of Gender, Race, and Class. The purpose of this game is to allow any student to walk in the shoes of a student from a lower income. We hope to show the different decisions, challenges, and obstacles such a student might face.
In this case, the student whose life we've chosen to follow is a Wellesley College first year from Southern California. This student is from a low income family and is attending Wellesley with a combination of scholarships, loans, and grants.
A disclaimer: we created the situations in this game by referencing our own experiences, and the experiences of our friends and peers. Obviously, this game does not cover the full gambit of events, obstacles, joys, struggles, and life experiences that any student from a lower income might encounter. This game does not explore the complex intersections, for example, of race and class, sexuality and class, or gender identity and class. In fact, this game only covers our experiences, and we are always happy to take critique, comments, suggestions, or hear your stories to make this game better and more effective.
